What is SEO Article Writing? - SEO Copywriting Explained

There's a reason why WordPress is the choice of most people when it comes to blogging, or putting up a website. In fact, there are several. Let's take a look, and see if we can break this down into a WordPress Design Guide for you.

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a user-friendly website creation tool. It has a ton of users. In fact, 24% of all webpages are created on WordPress. Over 500 new sites a day pop up... all courtesy of WordPress. If you are thinking of starting a website, and you don't have a lot of experience, WordPress is probably your best option.

Professional Themes

Themes determine the look and feel of your website. WordPress seems to have something for everybody. They have a ton of free themes that you can choose from as you begin to design your site. If you don't find anything you like, browse the paid themes (Premium themes). You want to pick a theme that represents your business. If you can't decide between a couple, you can change it later. Once you've developed a certain look that corresponds with your brand, you will want to keep it the same. Your best bet is to play with it in the design phase before you go live

Plug Ins

Ask anybody about designing a site through WordPress, and they're likely to respond by telling you that it's all about the plug ins. These are software and programs that can be used in conjunction with WordPress sites. Because they're designed to "plug in", they're all ready to interface with WordPress. These are designed to give you tools to monetize your site, expand your marketing, and interact with your audience.

2) Keep It:

  • Professional
  • Prospect Focused
  • Persuasive
3) Make sure the overall look is clean and modern

4) Be certain that any media on the site ties into your business

5) Include a clear Call to Action - What do you want your customers to do from there? Click? Call? Sign Up?

6) Avoid too much text, especially on the home page.

Let Your Website Be Your Ambassador

Your site should be designed to attract customers and prospective customers. Keep it engaging. Create different types of content for it. Maintain a blog to keep folks up to date on your company, any promotions, etc.

Make sure you promote your site on social media to drive traffic to it. It doesn't matter how awesome your site is if nobody sees it.

Use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tools, available on WordPress and through Plug Ins to boost your page's rankings. When people search your business, you want to be on the first page. Very few searches make it to the second page.

Offers visitors something in exchange for their email address and opting in to your mailing list. It will be a digital report, eBook, or white paper. Make it something they will be interested to get.

Happy Designing! You're on your way!

Web Design Templates - WordPress

WordPress is a content management system (basically technology that allows you to build and update a website). A lot of people use it as the basis for their blog but you can easily adapt it to create a nice and functional website.

There are actually two versions of WordPress. WordPress.com is the free version, which a lot of people use for personal blogs and personal websites. I wouldn't recommend using the free version as a business site, simply because you don't have the rights to the material on the site - it belongs to WordPress. If they so wished, they could remove your site from the web, and there's nothing you could do about it. Not so good for business. The same goes for Blogger.com which is another free website builder.

The version of WordPress that you want for business is WordPress.org. This is still free but you will need to pay for your own domain name and hosting space on which to install it. If you want to create a website using WordPress, make sure you use a hosting company that provides '1 click WordPress installation' with your hosting package. Most of them provide this as standard, but do check before you buy. If you do have this, follow the instructions from your hosting company to install WordPress on your hosting package. This should only take a few minutes and then you'll have a basic WordPress website ready to be used.

These are 'extras' which you can download to your site to add extra functionality. Some are free and some are paid for. There are too many to mention by name here but you'll be able to get plugins to add a sign up form to your site (to capture email addresses), to improve search engine optimisation, to stop spam and hundreds of different things.

These are 'extras' that can be put into your sidebar (the strip down the side of the page). You can add all sorts of things like text boxes which contain HTML code for Google Analytics, RSS feeds, an email address capture box and more.

Search engines such as Google use backlinks as a 'vote of approval' from one website to another, whether or not this has a positive, negative or neutral effect on the website's rankings depends on a few factors. The main factor being the reputation of the link source website.

Firstly, there are a two link-types, DoFollow and No-Follow. Gaining a backlink from a source which provides a do follow link allows for 'Link Equity' to be transferred. Link equity is the term used to describe the flow of authority/trust to a website. Optimal backlinks transfer relevant link equity, with Google expecting relevant websites to link to one another, I.E A dental website would naturally link to a hospital website.

On the other hand, NoFollow links don't allow the passing of link equity. Instead, no follow links are used to signal to Google that you do not wish to pass authority on to the website (Affiliate websites tend to use no-follow link attribute due to the high level of outbound links needed to direct readers to external websites featuring the products)

Google have since released several algorithm updates and new algorithms such as Hummingbird.

The lesson to be learnt is that in order to gain valuable backlinks, that help increase your rankings, they need to be gained from reputable sources. Without over-optimising, the anchor texts used (keep keyword anchor text to less than 4%) or the amount added over time.

I try to keep this in mind when thinking about backlink velocity, how many visitors is the page getting? (This can be found in Google Analytics) The reason for this is, that it would be highly unlikely that a website gaining 100 views per month would acquire 200 backlinks per month, naturally. Unnatural signs of backlinks can easily trigger an automated penalty, so this is something to keep in mind.

Well, I hope this has been insightful for you.
